Face Lifting with Threads
Correcting facial sagging by hanging with suturing systems without using major surgical interventions is a method that has long been known. When the procedure was first introduced it has become a less preferred technique in short time period because of some complications related to suture materials used that days and short effect duration.
In recent years after development of new resorbable suturing systems these problems have been solved. With introduction of new resorbable lift sutures containing cones or barbes, it became possible to obtain more effective tissue stretch and skin rejuvenation due to activation of new collagen production triggered by tissue reactions during the resorption of the sutures. Since the obtained effects are more significant and more lasting with less side effects the suture suspension method has become popular again.
With age, sagging of the facial skin in cheeks, around the eyes and neck lead to an old and exhausted appearance of the face. While many processes and non-surgical intervention options are developed in time to solve these problems, still the most effective and lasting methods are face lift surgeries. These surgeries almost always are performed under general anesthesia, in addition to long surgical period, may contain important risks and returning to normal life after the surgery may take a couple of weeks.
Today in the accelerating daily life, time has become more valuable and like other surgical procedures, there is an increasing interest on “minimal invasive” techniques in face lifting with less tissue damage, lower surgical risks and short down time.
Thread lifting techniques are applied to treat different problems. The main application areas of this procedures are;
- Lifting the sagged skin in temples, face, cheeks and neck
- Lifting and shaping the brows
- Shaping the eyes
- Lifting the droopy noses
- Rejuvenating the facial skin
These techniques usually are performed as office procedures in a short time period like 45-60 minutes under local anesthesia.
The most important advantage of thread lifting procedures is short down time. Depending on the content of the intervention, patients can go back to their normal lives at most in 2 days after the procedure. The complete disappearance of the effects of the intervention on facial skin takes around 2 weeks yielding natural and smooth face contours.
Though the effects provided in the tissues last up to 2-4 years depending on the suture material used, expected duration of visual results are around 18 to 24 months, since the normal aging processes continue in the meantime and individual factors like thickness and excess of skin play an important role on the permanence of the results.
